DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team made a furious comeback late in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough against Indiana Tech in a showdown of ranked Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference teams Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
The No. 22 Wolverines fell behind by 19 early in the fourth but chipped away down the stretch and had the ball down three in the final minutes. The No. 6 Warriors held on to escape with a 62-56 victory to extend their win streak to 16 games. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 15-3 overall, 7-2 in the WHAC and snaps a six-game win streak for the Wolverines.
Down 20-10 early in the second quarter, UM-Dearborn rebounded to cut the Indiana Tech lead to three at the break. The Warriors regained control in the third, outscoring UM-Dearborn 19-6 in the frame and built their lead to 19 in the opening minutes of the fourth.
Jeorgia Jones started the UM-Dearborn rally with a couple of buckets, a block and an assist to cut the deficit to 13 with 7:29 to go. The Wolverines were held without a 3-pointer in the game until Sade Lemons connected with under-five to play, and a jump shot from Jones made it a 57-51 Warrior lead with 4:24 to go.
Lauryn Carroll picked a great time to make her only bucket of the game, launching a rainbow 3-pointer from the wing to bring UM-Dearborn to within three with 2:54 to go. Indiana Tech held on the rest of the way, holding the Wolverines to just two more points and hitting from the free-throw line to secure the win.
Ro'Zhane Wells led the UM-Dearborn offense with 16 points while adding five rebounds. Lemons finished with 15 points, while Jones added 14 points and eight rebounds. Cydney Williams was a force on the defensive end with nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
The Wolverines shot 21-of-70 from the field, 2-of-22 from deep and 12-of-17 from the line while recording 16 assists and 10 turnovers.
Alexis Hill led the Warriors with 20 points and nine rebounds, while DeAnn Kauffman added 17 points.
UM-Dearborn welcomes Cornerstone University at 5:30 pm Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
