Wolverines roll 72-51 in season opener

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team opened the 2018-19 season with a convincing victory over Point Park University at the Lawrence Tech Classic Friday in Southfield, Mich.

The Wolverines pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Pioneers 19-10 in the fourth quarter en route to a 72-51 win to open the campaign 1-0. The victory is the fourth straight for UM-Dearborn, which closed last season on a three-game win streak.

Junior forward Jeorgia Jones led the Wolverines with a double-double to open her third season. She finished with a team-high 15 points and 10 rebounds, playing 25 minutes.

Sophomore Ro'zhane Wells added 11 points, while sophomore Cydney Williams finished with seven points and nine rebounds. Senior Jenna Rogers and sophomore Kayla Knight each added eight points for UM-Dearborn.

The Wolverines shot 29-of-76 from the field, 7-of-29 from deep and 7-of-15 from the free-throw line, while adding 14 assists and 11 turnovers.

Kaitlyn Smith and Michelle Burns each scored 15 points to lead the Pioneers.

UM-Dearborn continues play at the LTU Classic against Ohio Christian University at 2 pm Saturday in Southfield.
