Defense leads No. 22 Wolverines to 79-50 win

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team used stifling defense to shut down Bethel College in a nonconference matchup Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The No. 22 Wolverines forced 29 Pilot turnovers and blocked 11 shots en route to a 79-50 win. The victory pushes UM-Dearborn to 14-2 overall this season, just two wins shy of tying the program record for a season.

Leading 17-11 after the first 10 minutes, the Wolverines controlled the second quarter, outscoring the Pilots 23-5 and forcing nine turnovers in the frame. UM-Dearborn continued to press in the second half to pull away for the win.

Lauryn Carroll led UM-Dearborn offensively with 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting while adding five rebounds and three steals. Jeorgia Jones finished with 14 points, five rebounds, and two blocks.

Cydney Williams was dominant on the inside, blocking five shots to go along with 10 points, while Ro'Zhane Wells added 10 points and four assists.

The Wolverines shot 26-of-67 from the field, 6-of-23 from deep and 21-of-25 from the line, finishing with 19 assists, 18 steals and 11 blocks as a team.

Kamala Glenn led the Pilots with 12 points, while Kelsey Brickner added 10 points and six rebounds.

The Wolverines return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action against Madonna University at 5:30 pm Wednesday in Livonia, Mich.
