Wolverines open WHAC season with 72-65 win over Saints

ADRIAN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team opened the 2018-19 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference season against Siena Heights University Wednesday in Adrian, Mich.

The Wolverines took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Saints 19-11 in the frame and holding on for a 72-65 win to move to 5-1 overall on the season and 1-0 in the WHAC. The win is the first for UM-Dearborn women's basketball over Siena Heights since 2009.

Ro'Zhane Wells continued the strong start to her first season with the Wolverines, finishing with 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting, adding three assists and two steals. Sade Lemons narrowly missed a double-double recording 17 points and nine rebounds.

Laekyn Jaciuk added 13 points and five rebounds off the bench, while Jeorgia Jones finished with nine points and seven rebounds.

The Wolverines shot 23-of-66 from the field, 7-of-32 from deep and 19-of-35 from the line.

Kiana Votava scored a game-high 20 points for the Saints, who outrebounded the Wolverines 41-40.

UM-Dearborn continues WHAC play against Aquinas College at 1 pm Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich.
