Women's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Concordia

Ann Arbor, MI - The women's basketball team took on the Concordia University Cardinals on Saturday afternoon. Michigan-Dearborn (1-26, 1-19) fell behind early 4-0 but was able to score points and play tough defense in the first quarter in leading 14-9 heading into the second quarter. The Wolverines extended the lead to seven points in the second quarter, but Concordia (14-14, 8-12) trimmed the lead to one point late in the quarter. Freshman Jenna Rogers' late basket extended Michigan-Dearborn's lead to three, 23-20 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Concordia tied the game with 5:46 remaining and then went on a 7-0 run to take a seven point lead with just under three minutes left to play in the quarter. Two free throws by Rogers and a last second field goal by sophomore Marisa Sauve pulled Michigan-Dearborn within three points heading into the final quarter. Just two and a half minutes into the fourth quarter, the Wolverines took a one point lead, 43-42. The Cardinals then went on an 11-0 run as they held the Wolverines scoreless for almost six minutes in the fourth quarter. Concordia would maintain the ten point lead in winning 57-47. Freshman Kendall Rose led Michigan-Dearborn with 15 points and 9 rebounds while Rogers added 9 points. The women's basketball team will next take on the 18th ranked Lawrence Tech Blue Devils on Wednesday on the road at 6:00pm.
