Women's Basketball Falls in Overtime

Dearborn, MI - The women's basketball team battled back from two 11 point deficits Wednesday night but fell in overtime to the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers 65-61. Northwestern Ohio (11-10, 8-5) led from the start of the game and eventually built up an 11 point in the second quarter. Michigan-Dearborn (0-20, 0-13) cut the deficit to eight points at halftime.

The Racers built the lead back up to 11 points in the third quarter, but the Wolverines would pull within one point early in the fourth quarter and eventually tie the game with just over five minutes remaining in the game. Trailing by three points, sophomore Megan Swick sank a three-pointer with 20 seconds remaining to tie the game at 55. After a Northwestern Ohio miss, sophomore Marisa Sauve's shot at the buzzer just rattled out sending the game into overtime.

In overtime, the Racers scored the first four points until Swick struck again making her seventh three-point basket of the game. That would be as close as the Wolverines would get as Northwestern Ohio would sink free throws in the last minute of overtime to win 65-61. Swick led the Wolverines with 26 points and 7 rebounds and went 7 for 10 from behind the three-point line. Freshman Kendall Rose added 14 points and 7 rebounds while freshman Natlie Spala scored 11 points. The women's basketball team will play at Marygrove College on Saturday at 1:00pm. The game will be played at the Northwest Activities Center in Detroit.
