Women's Basketball Loses to Indiana University South Bend 77-44

South Bend, IN - The women's basketball team played a non-conference game Saturday afternoon against the Indiana University South Bend Titans. Both teams came out strong as IU-South Bend opened up a seven point lead in the first quarter. Michigan-Dearborn (0-8, 0-4) cut the Titans lead to five, 17-12 when the first quarter ended. IU-South Bend (7-4, 2-1) opened up a 15 lead in the second quarter which the Wolverines cut to 13, 34-21 by halftime. A big part of the Titans success was rebounding. Michigan-Dearborn was outrebounded 54-25 in the game.

The two teams shot the ball well in the third quarter as both teams scored 18 points in the quarter. The fourth quarter is where the Wolverines began to signs of fatigue. Injuries shortened Michigan-Dearborn's bench, and IU-South Bend outscored the Wolverines 25-5 in the fourth quarter in winning 77-44. Michigan-Dearborn committed a season low 10 turnovers in the game but shot just 30% for the game. Freshman Emily Heinrich led Michigan-Dearborn with 17 points while fellow freshman Natalie Spala added 10 points. The women's basketball team next heads to the University of Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday to take on the Racers at 5:30pm.
