Early surge leads Montreat past UM-Dearborn

BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's lacrosse team played its second of five consecutive home games, hosting Montreat College Sunday at the Detroit Country Day Fieldhouse in Beverly Hills, Mich.

Hannibal Roda (SR/Harrison Township, Mich.) tied the game at one on the man up early in the first quarter, but the Cavaliers took over, scoring the next four and held the lead for the remainder of the contest. The Wolverines fell 16-9, dropping to 3-2 on the season.

Leading the way offensively for the Wolverines was Matthew Rosteck (SR/Commerce Township, Mich.) with two goals and an assist. Colin DeWitt (FR/South Lyon, Mich.) recorded his first two goals in a Wolverine uniform, while Adam Ranck (FR/West Bloomfield, Mich.) and Devon Callaghan (JR/Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) each scored twice. Mitchell Stapleton (SR/Detroit, Mich.) added two assists.

The Cavaliers controlled in the faceoff battle winning 22-of-28 and held a 50-29 advantage in ground balls.

John Ferris powered the Cavalier offense with four goals and two assists, while Chris Jackson added four goals.

Liam Turner (SO/Ann Arbor, Mich.) finished with eight saves for UM-Dearborn. The Wolverines outshot Montreat 43-39.

UM-Dearborn hosts No. 10 University of St. Mary (Kan.) at 8:30 pm Tuesday at the Detroit Country Day Fieldhouse.
