LTU takes WHAC opener over UM-Dearborn 10-8

BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's lacrosse team shut out reigning Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season champion Lawrence Tech in the fourth quarter of the league opener Saturday at the Detroit Country Day Fieldhouse.

Down four entering the final 15 minutes, the Wolverine comeback was stifled, as UM-Dearborn fell 10-8. The loss drops the Wolverines to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in the WHAC.

UM-Dearborn started the game strong, scoring on its first two possessions. LTU answered back scoring five of the next six goals to pull ahead. The Wolverines chipped away at the deficit and scored the final three of the game.

Devon Callaghan (JR/Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) increased his team-leading total to 24 goals as he led the way with three tallies against LTU. The highlight came as Callaghan drove to the net, got turned around and threw the ball over his shoulder with his back to the goal and put it past the LTU goalie.

Matthew Rosteck (SR/Commerce Township, Mich.) added two goals and an assist. The Wolverines lost the ground ball battle 34-21, but outshot the Blue Devils 38-36 and won 12-of-22 face offs.

The Wolverines play on the road for the next two games, starting with Concordia University in a WHAC matchup at 4 pm Wednesday in Ann Arbor, Mich.
