Callaghan scores six in win at Union

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's lacrosse team hit the road for two games this weekend in Kentucky, starting with a matchup against Union College on Saturday.

The Wolverines took control in the second half and held on for a 15-12 win over the Bulldogs, who were playing in the first NAIA game in program history. The win moves UM-Dearborn to 2-0 this season.

UM-Dearborn led 13-7 at the end of the third quarter, but Union rallied with five straight goals to cut the Wolverine advantage to one on a rainy afternoon. Late goals from Micah Rinke (SO/Plymouth, Mich.) and Alex Gjokaj (JR/Macomb, Mich.) secured the win for UM-Dearborn.

Devon Callaghan (JR/Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) led the Wolverine offense, scoring six goals on 17 shots, while adding three ground balls. In his first game since early last season, Hannibal Roda (SR/Harrison Township, Mich.) scored three goals for UM-Dearborn, while adding an assist.

Gjokaj, Rinke and Justin Brodzik (JR/Canton, Mich.) each scored twice for UM-Dearborn, which outshot the Bulldogs 47-29. The Wolverines won the groundball battle 20-18, while Union edged UM-Dearborn on face offs 15-14.
