No. 5 Saints control second half to top Wolverines

ADRIAN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's lacrosse team battled through a defensive game against No. 5 Siena Heights University Saturday in Adrian, Mich.

The Wolverines held a 3-1 lead in the second quarter, but the Saints closed the game on a 7-1 run to top UM-Dearborn 8-4. The loss drops the Wolverines to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in the WHAC.

Devon Callaghan (JR/Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) put the Wolverines up 1-0 with the lone goal scored in the first quarter. After SHU tied the score early in the second, Adam Ranck (FR/West Bloomfield, Mich.) gave the Wolverines back the lead with a goal on an assist from Mitchell Stapleton (SR/Detroit, Mich.).

UM-Dearborn extended its lead to 3-1 with a goal from Justin Brodzik (JR/Canton, Mich.) on an assist from Callaghan. The Saints scored the next seven, including two in the fourth quarter from Shane Lewandowski to take control. Callaghan scored his second of the game late in the fourth.

Liam Turner (SO/Ann Arbor, Mich.) made 11 saves in net for the Wolverines.

The Wolverines outshot the Saints 31-29, while winning 11-of-16 face offs. SHU controlled the ground balls 29-25.

UM-Dearborn returns home to take on No. 10 Aquinas College at 8 pm Wednesday at the Detroit Country Day Fieldhouse in Beverly Hills, Mich.
