DEARBORN, Mich. – After one of the most decorated careers in University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball history, Jason Penn has signed a professional basketball contract to continue playing in Germany.

Penn, a native of Detroit, signed a contract to play for BBC Coburg Spielbetriebs GmbH in Coburg, Germany. Coburg is a city with a population of just over 41,000 and is located in the northern region of the country.

"I am excited about the opportunity," Penn said. I am able to continue doing what I love to do, and at the same time, I get to travel, learn about a new culture, new environments and a new language."

Penn is the second Wolverine men's basketball student-athlete to sign a professional contract in Europe in the last two seasons, joining former teammate Marcus Williams, who played the 2017-18 season in Slovenia.

BBC Coburg competes in the Pro B division of Germany's Basketball Bundesliga. The season will get underway in September and will last nine months. Penn said that he is expecting to leave for Germany in mid-August to prepare for the season.

During his time with the Wolverines, Penn finished with 1,692 career points, fourth on the UM-Dearborn all-time scoring list. Penn's 293 rebounds in 2017-18 are the third highest in a season for any student-athlete in UM-Dearborn men's basketball history.

Penn guided the Wolverines to the NAIA Division II National Tournament in 2017-18, the first appearance in program history. As a senior, he recorded 571 points (16.8 points per game) while adding a team-high 8.6 rebounds per game, all career highs. In a historic win at No. 1 Cornerstone University in the WHAC Postseason Tournament semifinals, Penn scored a career-high 38 points. He is the winningest student-athlete in program history with 63 victories over four seasons.
