WOLVERINES FALL TO RED STORM TO CLOSE NAIA SHOWCASE

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team wrapped up its stay at the NAIA Division II Showcase, taking on host school the University of Rio Grande Sunday in Kingsport, Tenn.

The Wolverines fell to the Red Storm 79-73 to close the event. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 6-4 overall on the season.

The Wolverines were led by senior Jason Penn (SR/Detroit, MI) with 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while narrowly missing a double-double with nine rebounds. Senior Ashton Curd (SR/Detroit, MI) added 13 points and three steals, while sophomore Cody Kegley (SO/Yale, MI) added 12 points off the bench. Donovan Farrell (JR/Detroit, MI) and Gage Throgmorton (SR/White Lake, MI) each recorded nine points.

UM-Dearborn shot 26-of-54 from the field, 4-of-15 from deep and 17-of-22 from the line. The Wolverines outrebounded the Red Storm 34-27.

Rio Grande was led by Will Hill and Jason Burgess, each finishing with 21 points.

The Wolverines return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play against the University of Northwestern Ohio at 7:30 pm Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
