UM-DEARBORN BREAKS WHAC RECORD IN WIN AT SHU

ADRIAN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team shot the ball about as well as a team can in a crucial road Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference win over Siena Heights University Saturday in Adrian, Mich.

The Wolverines (RV) shot a WHAC record 68.8 percent (according to the official WHAC website) from the field en route to a 94-84 win, moving UM-Dearborn to 8-4 overall and 5-1 in the WHAC. The Wolverines are in second place in the league standings, one game back of reigning champion Cornerstone University.

UM-Dearborn scorched the nets in the first half, hitting 75 percent of its field goals and seven 3-pointers. The UM-Dearborn starters combined to miss just two shots in the first 20 minutes. SHU shot 61.3 percent in the second half to make a rally, but the Wolverines closed out the win late.

Five Wolverines finished in double figures, led by senior Gage Throgmorton (SR/White Lake, MI) and junior Xavier Crofford (JR/Detroit, MI), each scoring 18 points. Throgmorton finished with three made 3-pointers, while Crofford added four rebounds.

Senior Ashton Curd (SR/Detroit, MI) added 16 points, four assists and two steals, while sophomore Cody Kegley (SO/Yale, MI) hit four 3-pointers, finishing with 15 points and four rebounds. Junior Mafiaion Joyner (JR/Battle Creek, MI) came off the bench to score 12 and add five rebounds.

The Wolverines shot 33-of-48 from the field, 9-of-18 from deep and 19-of-29 from the line. UM-Dearborn was edged in the rebounding battle 29-23.

Keith Jordan Jr. scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Saints.

The Wolverines look to continue their strong league play against Lawrence Tech at 7:30 pm Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
