LATE SURGE LEADS UM-DEARBORN TO 78-69 WIN OVER ROCHESTER

DEARBORN, Mich. – Trailing for the majority of the contest, the University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball stepped on the gas late and pulled away for a win over Rochester College in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

UM-Dearborn (RV) took its first lead with 7:15 left and did not trail the rest of the way, led by balanced scoring with five Wolverines finishing in double figures. Held quiet for most of the game, senior Jason Penn (SR/Detroit, MI) exploded for 13 points in the final eight minutes to push UM-Dearborn to a 78-69 win.

The win snaps a four-game skid and moves UM-Dearborn to 13-10 overall and 8-5 in the WHAC.

Penn finished with a team-high 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting while adding a team-best eight rebounds. Junior Xavier Crofford (JR/Detroit, MI) and senior Gage Throgmorton (SR/White Lake, MI) each added 14 points and five rebounds, while junior Mafiaion Joyner (JR/Battle Creek, MI) recorded 13 points, including three 3-pointers, off the bench. Sophomore Cody Kegley (SO/Yale, MI) finished with 10 points and four assists.

The Wolverines shot 29-of-59 from the field, 8-of-22 from deep and 12-of-16 from the line, while outrebounding the Warriors 31-29.

Rochester was led by Andrew Kline with 18 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.

The Wolverines host Siena Heights University at 3 pm Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
