WOLVERINE MEN DROP CLOSE MATCHUP WITH SAINTS

DEARBORN, Mich. – In a back-and-forth contest, the University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team fell to Aquinas College in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.  

The Wolverines rallied from a seven-point deficit late in the first half to trail by one at the break. The teams battled throughout the final 20 minutes, with no lead larger than five points for either team. Aquinas got a 3-pointer from TJ Hunter with 1:26 left to move in front for good, taking the win 66-61.

The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 12-9 overall and 7-4 in the WHAC.

Senior Jason Penn (SR/Detroit, MI) led the Wolverines with 19 points, seven rebounds and three blocks, while sophomore Cody Kegley (SO/Yale, MI) added 18 points, including four 3-pointers to go along with six rebounds and five assists. Senior Gage Throgmorton (SR/White Lake, MI) finished with nine points, all on 3-point shots.

The Wolverines finished 22-of-57 from the field, 7-of-21 from deep and 10-of-15 from the line while being outrebounded 34-31.

The Saints had four players finish in double figures, led by Opeyemi Sholesi with 14 points.

The Wolverines look to get back in the win column against Lourdes University at 3 pm Saturday in Sylvania, Ohio.
