DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team won a dramatic contest in the opening round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament on Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

Earlier in the day, it was announced that five Wolverines earned WHAC Postseason honors, led by senior Jason Penn (SR/Detroit, MI), who was named the All-WHAC First Team for the second consecutive season. Penn is the first UM-Dearborn men's basketball student-athlete to earn two career First Team awards.

Penn enters Saturday's semifinal game at Cornerstone University averaging 16.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, both career highs for the 6-foot-8 forward.

For the first time in his career, sophomore Cody Kegley (SO/Yale, MI) earned All-WHAC Second Team honors. Kegley, who was a member of the WHAC All-Freshman Team last season, is having a standout season on both ends of the court. He is averaging 10 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and nearly two steals per game.

Junior Mafiaion Joyner (JR/Battle Creek, MI) was also named to the All-WHAC Second Team, after a breakout first season with the Wolverines. He is averaging 12.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. In the win over Madonna University on Wednesday, Joyner scored 10 points in the final five minutes, finishing with a game-high 24, while adding 10 rebounds for a double-double.

The UM-Dearborn WHAC Champions of Character Team representative is senior Gage Throgmorton (SR/White Lake, MI), while senior Hassan Doghman (JR/Dearborn, MI) was named to the WHAC All-Academic Team.

The Wolverines continue their postseason run in the WHAC semifinals at No. 1 Cornerstone University at 3 pm Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich.
