WOLVERINES CAPTURE WHAC WIN AT CONCORDIA

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team returned to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action against Concordia University Tuesday in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Wolverines (RV) successfully moved to 2-0 in the WHAC, using a 3-point barrage from senior Gage Throgmorton (SR/White Lake, MI) in the first half, while forcing 19 turnovers by the Cardinals to capture a 68-59 win. The victory pushes UM-Dearborn to 4-2 overall.

Throgmorton, playing in his first game since 2015-16 for the Wolverines, made four 3-pointers in the first half, accounting for all 12 of his points in the game.

UM-Dearborn got a pair of double-doubles, led by junior Mafiaion Joyner (JR/Battle Creek, MI) with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while senior Jason Penn (SR/Detroit, MI) added 14 points, 10 rebounds and a team-high four assists. Senior Ashton Curd (SR/Detroit, MI) finished with 11 points while making 6-of-7 free throws.

The Wolverines finished 21-of-58 from the field, 7-of-21 from deep and 19-of-28 from the free-throw line. UM-Dearborn was outrebounded 44-31 while finishing with 10 total assists and seven turnovers.

The Cardinals got a game-high 17 points from Jared McDaniel, while Connor Phee added 13 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.

The Wolverines are in action next in an exhibition against NCAA Division I foe Eastern Michigan University at 2 pm Sunday in Ypsilanti, Mich.
