UM-Dearborn tops Michigan, Aquinas in impressive weekend

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's ice hockey team picked up a pair of wins over the weekend, including an impressive road victory over the University of Michigan (ACHA DI) on Saturday and a home win against Aquinas College Sunday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.

Against Michigan, UM-Dearborn scored nine times in the second period to cruise to a 10-4 win, avenging the only loss for the first-year program. No. 2 (West Region) UM-Dearborn pulled away from the Saints in the final game of the weekend, topping Aquinas 5-1.

The wins move UM-Dearborn to 12-1-0 overall this season.

At Yost Ice Arena on Saturday, UM-Dearborn fell behind 2-1 after the first but controlled a high-scoring second period, including two goals each from Claudia Maguire and Kim Primeau.

Maguire finished with three goals and two assists, while Odisoula Argyris added a goal and two assists. Kaylee Keledjian, Lexi Garbacik, Brooke Spiegel and Isabella Welke each also added a goal for UM-Dearborn.

Victoria Hahn made 31 saves in net for UM-Dearborn in the win.

Against the Saints, Argyris put the Wolverines up 2-0 with the first two goals of the game, while Spiegel scored a power-play goal in the second period to push the advantage to three. After Aquinas got on the board early in the third, Keledjian recorded two goals later in the period to put the game away.

Tara Peladeau got the win in net for the Wolverines, making 16 saves.

UM-Dearborn travels to Sault College for two games starting at 7 pm Sunday in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont./Mich.
