DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's ice hockey team was defeated for the first time in program history, falling to the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (Division I) Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.
UM-Ann Arbor scored two in the first period and took a 5-0 lead after two, as UM-Dearborn took four penalties in the first five minutes of the middle frame. UM-Ann Arbor went on for the 6-1 win, snapping the UM-Dearborn nine-game win streak to start the program's first season of competition.
The loss moves No. 3 (West Region) UM-Dearborn to 9-1 on the season.
Isabella Welke scored the lone goal for UM-Dearborn on a power-play tally late in the second with the assist to Odisoula Argyris. Victoria Hahn got the start in net and made 14 saves through two periods. Tara Peladeau made seven saves in the third.
Mariah Evans led UM-Ann Arbor with two goals and two assists.
The Wolverines return to action against Aquinas College at 1 pm Sunday at the Southside Ice Arena in Byron Center, Mich.
