Anderson Nets 15 in Loss Against No. 8 Grace

WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn (0-2) men's basketball team traveled to the Manahan Orthopedic Capital Center to take on No. 8 Grace College (1-0) in a non-conference matchup on Saturday (Oct. 29). Grace came out victorious winning 109-70. 

 

UM-Dearborn Leaders

The Wolverines were perfect from the charity stripe and drained six triples. Dearborn crashed the offensive boards securing 14 offensive rebounds. Maurice Anderson made six shots on 14 attempts to lead the Wolverines in scoring with 15. Anderson also led Dearborn with six rebounds. Jimmy Breaux was 6-13 from the field, scoring 12 points in 19 minutes. Freshman Troy Campbell scored 10 points and shot 2-3 from behind the arc. 

 

Grace Leaders 

The Lancers shot 66.1% (37-56) from the field. Cade Gibbs lead all scorers with 25 points shooting a perfect 9-9 from the free-throw line. Ian Scott was perfect from the field, scoring 21 points on seven made field goals and 7-8 from the free throw line. Frankie Davidson and Jakob Gibbs rounded out the scoring with 19 and 10 points, respectively.

 

Inside the Game

Grace opened the game on a 9-0 run before Mohamed Ibrahim drilled a three to get the Wolverines on the board. The Lancer lead would grow to 13 before Troy Campbell would convert a three of his own to make it 16-6. The Lancers would go on an 8-0 run before an Elwood Tomlinson three-pointer. 

 

The Lancers got the Wolverines in foul trouble as they attempted 23 free throws in the first half. However, Dearborn's offensive rebounding kept them in the ballgame as they scored 19 points off 2nd chance opportunities. Grace would shoot 53.6% in the first half and take a 13-point lead into the break. 

 

Anderson would score 11 of his 15 in the second half, but the Wolverines could not trim the deficit.

The Wolverines travel to the upper peninsula to take on NCAA Division II foe Lake Superior State at 4 pm on Tuesday (Nov. 1).
