Wolverines drop a pair of non-conference games in Illinois

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team returned to action with a pair of non-conference games in Illinois against Roosevelt University and St. Francis (IL).

On Thursday, the Wolverines and the Lakers played a tight first half, with Roosevelt University taking a four-point lead into the break. UM-Dearborn had no response coming out of the half as the Lakers shot 55 percent as a team from the field while relying on Trenton Kyler, who scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half, propelling his team to an 81-56 defeat of the Wolverines.

Leading UM-Dearborn was the trio of Jason Gigliotti (14 points, six rebounds), Vyshonn Munson (10 points, seven rebounds), and Elwood Tomlinson (12 points, four assists), all recording double-digits in points. Reid Sellers cleaned up on the glass, leading the Wolverines with a team-high 10 rebounds. 

On Friday, UM-Dearborn looked to bounce back against St. Francis (IL). The Wolverines would get 16 points from Maurice Anderson but still found themselves down 12 after the first half. UM-Dearborn would come out strong in the second half, shooting over 50 percent as a team. However, the Saints would rely on the three, connecting 10 times in the second half, defeating the Wolverines 104-80.

Leading UM-Dearborn was Anderson with 23 points, tied for the game-high, while Gigliotti would add 16 points and nine rebounds of his own. 

The two losses drop the Wolverines to 3-12 overall on the season. Keegan Mott and Troy Campbell would reach double-digits, adding 12 and 10 points, respectively.

UM-Dearborn returns to conference action against the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils at 7:30 pm at Henry Ford College in Dearborn, Mich.
