Wolverins earn a pair of wins in Pennsylvania

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team returned to action this past weekend, traveling to Schuylkill Haven, PA, for a pair of non-conference games against Penn St.-Schuylkill.

On Friday, the Wolverines took a 10-point lead into the half and never looked back, outscoring the Nittany Lions by twelve in the second half on their way to a 79-57 victory.

Leading the way for UM-Dearborn was Elwood Tomlinson with 26 points while adding five rebounds. Jason Gigliotti and Troy Campbell both finished with double-digit points in the contest, adding 13 points and 12 points, respectively. 

Reid Sellers led the way defensively, recording 14 rebounds, while Jimmy Breaux would add 13 of his own for the Wolverines.

On Saturday, Penn St.-Schuylkill responded with a solid first half, taking a 12-point lead into the half over UM-Dearborn. However, the Wolverines would score 58 points in the second half to defeat the Nittany Lions, 96-87.

The Wolverines had five players in double-digit scoring, led by Tomlinson with 21, tied for the game-high. Campbell and Vyshonn Munson played a significant role in the comeback, with 25 of their combined 36 points coming in the second half. 

Breaux and Gigliotti dominated down low with nothing recording a double-double. Breaux would finish the game with 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Gigliotti added 13 points and 14 rebounds for UM-Dearborn. 

The weekend sweep of Penn St.-Schuylkill moves the Wolverines to 3-10 overall on the season while remaining 1-6 in the WHAC.

UM-Dearborn returns to action with two non-conference games in Illinois against Roosevelt University (Dec. 30th @ 4 pm) and St. Francis (IL) (Dec. 31st @ 2 pm).
