Defense leads UM-Dearborn to win over LTU

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team came from behind to defeat Lawrence Tech in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup on Monday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

After Ty Searles led the Blue Devils to a halftime lead, UM-Dearborn made a switch and Hamoudy Turfe came off the bench to play lockdown defense on LTU high-scoring guard, allowing the Wolverines to take control.

UM-Dearborn held LTU to just 21 points in the second half on its way to a 68-60 victory. The win pushes UM-Dearborn to 9-19 overall and 7-12 in the WHAC with one conference game remaining on the schedule.

With a win against Aquinas College on Saturday, UM-Dearborn will secure a spot in the WHAC Postseason Tournament.

The Wolverines currently sit in eighth place in the WHAC, with Aquinas trailing one game behind. The Wolverines also sit one game back of the Blue Devils for seventh in the standings.

Leading the way offensively for UM-Dearborn was freshman Zach Lattimer with 22 points. Lattimer shot 8-for-16 from the field and made a game-high five 3-pointers. Sophomore Jason Gigliotti added 16 points, while junior Kegley recorded 14.

The Wolverines shot 22-for-59 from the field, 6-for-25 from long range and 18-for-20 from the line. They outrebounded the Blue Devils 35-30 and totaled 12 assists and six turnovers.

Ty Searles led the way for LTU with 21 points, with 17 in the first half.

UM-Dearborn steps out of the conference for a matchup against Wilberforce University at 7:30 pm Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
