Wolverine rally falls short in loss to Saints

DEARBORN, Mich. – A second-half comeback by the University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team was halted by Siena Heights University in the final moments of regulation of a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines trailed by as many as 17 before battling back to tie the game. The Saints took control in the final minutes and pulled away for a 71-63 win, dropping UM-Dearborn to 8-15 overall and 6-8 in the WHAC.

The Wolverines trailed by 10 at the break and the Saints stormed out in the second half to take a 47-30 lead with 12:19 remaining. UM-Dearborn went on an 18-1 run over the next five minutes to tie the game at 48-48. But a 3-pointer from P.J. Austin put the Saints ahead 51-48 and the Wolverines trailed the rest of the way.

Xavier Crofford and Jason Gigliotti led the way offensively for UM-Dearborn, finishing with 12 points each. Cody Kegley hit two 3-pointers to finish with 10 points, while Mafiaion Joyner added 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

UM-Dearborn shot 23-for-52 from the field, 5-for-15 from long range and 12-for-24 from the line. The Wolverines had 13 assists and 10 turnovers.

The Saints were led by Josh Winowiecki with 21 points and seven rebounds.

The Wolverines continue conference play against Lourdes University at 3 pm on Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
