No. 8 Cornerstone tops UM-Dearborn in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team fell to No. 8 Cornerstone University in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest Wednesday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Golden Eagles used a 13-2 run early in the first half to take control and led the rest of the way, topping the Wolverines 87-68. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 8-18 overall and 6-11 in the WHAC.

UM-Dearborn sits in eighth place in the WHAC standings a half-game ahead of Aquinas College and a game back of Rochester College for seventh place. The top eight teams in the WHAC standings at the end of the regular season will earn a spot in the WHAC Postseason Tournament.

UM-Dearborn shot 26-of-59 from the field, 7-of-21 from deep and 9-of-13 from the line.

Jason Gigliotti led the Wolverines with 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting while adding a team-high seven rebounds. Xavier Crofford finished with 13 points, while Cody Kegley added 10 points and seven assists.

The Golden Eagles were led by Sam Vander Sluis with 19 points and 15 rebounds.

The Wolverines return home for the final four games of the regular season, starting against Madonna University at 3 pm Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
