UM-Dearborn wins third straight, tops Rochester 89-74

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team continued its midseason resurgence with another Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference win, topping Rochester College Saturday at Garth Pleasant Arena in Rochester Hills, Mich.

The Wolverines controlled the contest from the start, opening the game on a 12-0 run and led by double digits nearly the rest of the way en route to an 89-74 win. The victory is the third straight for UM-Dearborn and moves the Wolverines to 7-13 overall and 5-6 in the WHAC.

With the results on Saturday, the Wolverines are now in a three-way tie for fifth place in the WHAC with Siena Heights University and Lawrence Tech with nine games left in the conference season.

Jalen Paul scored a season-high 20 points to lead the Wolverines, including three 3-pointers. Cody Kegley hit four 3-pointers, finishing with 16 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Jason Gigliotti narrowly missed a double-double with 16 points and eight rebounds.

Xavier Crofford filled the stat sheet for the Wolverines, finishing with 14 points, seven rebounds, a team-high six assists, and two steals, while Mafiaion Joyner, the hero from the thrilling win over No. 6 Cornerstone on Wednesday, added 13 points and six rebounds off the bench.

The Wolverines shot 35-of-65 from the field, 10-of-27 from deep and 9-of-12 from the free-throw line.

Armand Cartwright led the Warriors with 20 points, while Kash Blackwell added a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Wolverines return to action against the University of Northwestern Ohio at 7:30 pm Wednesday in Lima, Ohio.
