Wolverines Wrap up Regular With Loss Against No. 21 Cornerstone

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn (14-17, 10-10) volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with a tough matchup against No. 22 Cornerstone (30-3, 20-0). The Wolverines made a late push, but the Golden Eagles won the match 3-1 on Saturday (Nov. 5). 

 

Sydney Eggleton led the Wolverines with 14.5 points. Eggleton put down 12 kills on 50 attacks. Brooke Wetherill was a force at the net all afternoon, leading the contest with six blocks and chipping in 10 kills. Kenzie Mertz led the Wolverines with 20 digs in the loss. 

 

The Golden Eagles took the first two sets 25-18, 25-23. However, with their backs against the walls, the Wolverines raced out to an 8-2 lead in the third set and would not looks back. CU would come within a point at 17-16, but the Wolverines prevailed, winning the third set 25-22. 

 

Dearborn could not contain the high-powered Golden Eagle attack losing the fourth set 25-18 and the match.

The Wolverine volleyball team will travel to Madonna on Wednesday (Nov. 9) for the first round of the WHAC Tournament.
