Wolverines Drop WHAC Opener Against Sienna Heights

Wolverines Drop WHAC Opener Against Sienna Heights

ADRIAN, Mich.-- The University of Michigan-Dearborn (3-7, 0-1 WHAC) volleyball team dropped their Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference opener against Sienna Heights on Wednesday (Sept 7). The Wolverines combined for 18 blocks in the 3-0 defeat.

The Maize & Blue took a commanding lead in the first set as back-to-back kills from Brooke Wetherill forced the Saints into a timeout down 14-4. The Saint's timeout proved effective as they could chip away at the Wolverine lead and eventually tie up the set at 21 apiece. SHU would take the set by a final score of 25-22.

The Wolverines took the first two points of the second set after Regan Rose set up Wetherill for the kill, and the duo promptly stuffed the Saints at the net on the following point. The Saints carried their momentum from the first set as they took an 11-6 lead early on in the set before the Wolverines went on a 3-0 started by a Wetherill kill. The Wolverines tied it up at 13 apiece when Regan Sliwinski and Rose continued their success at the net when they stuffed the Saints again. However, the Saints would find their grove again as they would score the following four points and eventually take the second set 25-20.

Neither team could hold a strong lead early in the third set. The two teams exchanged the lead six times, with the largest lead coming from the Saints when it was 7-4. The Wolverines took a 17-16 in a last-ditch effort to take control, but SHU shut down the Wolverine run one final time and took the third set 25-19, and claimed the match.
