Wolverines Fall Short Against Unbeaten Warriors

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn (5-9, 1-2 WHAC) volleyball team pushed the unbeaten Indiana Tech Warriors (15-0, 3-0 WHAC) to the brink on Friday (Sept 16) but ultimately fell short in the five-set thriller. Sydney Eggleton and Kielee Tondryk both put in 20-point performances in Friday's loss.

The Wolverines raced out to a 12-3 lead in the first set on the back of Tondryk's early success. Back-to-back kills from Eggleton ended the first set with a final score of 25-15 in favor of the Wolverines. The Wolverines controlled the first two sets of the contest without allowing a tie or surrendering the lead in either set.

The Wolverine block was troubling the Warriors all night, with the team accumulating 30 block assists on the evening, led by Regan Sliwinski's eight assists and one solo.

The third set was tightly contested throughout, with 11 ties and three lead changes amidst the set. With the Warriors at set point holding a 24-22 lead, the Wolverines would not go away quickly as Eggleton rattled off back-to-back kills to tie the contest up at 24. However, the Warriors were able to fend off the mini-run from the Maize & Blue and took the third set 26-24.

After the Warriors forced a fourth set, the Wolverines raced out to a 9-4 lead capped off by Allie Federlein and Sliwinski stuffing the Warriors at the net. Tech continued to chip away at the Wolverine lead, leading to eight ties and five lead changes in the set. Finally, the Warriors tied the set at 23 apiece and took the final two points to win 25-23 and force a fifth set.

The Warriors claimed a 15-11 victory in the final set and completed the reverse sweep of the Wolverines.
