Wolverines Season Ends Against Madonna

LIVONIA, MICH. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn (14-19) volleyball team took on Madonna (16-12) in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. The Wolverines took the first set but could not stop a potent Crusader attack and saw their season conclude in a 3-1 loss. 

 

Kielee Tondryk set the tone for the Wolverines, leading the match with 17.5 points on 17 kills and a single block. Regan Sliwinski was the most efficient in attack, putting down eight balls on 20 swings. Regan Rose tied for a game-high 38 assists, while Kenzie Mertz led the match with 22 digs. 

 

The Maize & Blue raced out to an early 8-3 lead thanks to three early kills from Tondryk. After the Crusaders closed the gap, Amanda Wilyards utilized her strong serve to keep Madonna on their heels and help the Wolverines grow their lead to 13-7. The Wolverines would expand their lead to 16-8 before eventually taking the opening set 25-19. 

 

Madonna bounced back in the second set, winning 25-18. 

 

Dearborn would take an early 3-0 lead in the third set before the Crusaders tied the match up at four a piece. Each team traded points until the Wovleresin took a 10-9 lead capped off by an Eggleton kill. The Crusaders went on an 11-3 run to take a 20-13 lead before the Wolverines went on a run of their own to bring it back to 21-18 Madonna. However, it was too little too late, as the Crusaders took the third set 25-22. 

 

Both teams would battle in the fourth set seeing the change five times. The Crusaders would prevail, winning the final set 25-21.
