Lynch named WHAC Defensive POTW

DEARBORN, Mich. – For the first time since 2007, the University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team has earned a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Player of the Week award, it was announced by the conference on Monday.

The Wolverines rallied from a 2-0 deficit at Concordia University on Friday to defeat the Cardinals in five sets, led by the tremendous defensive effort of freshman Libero Mallory Lynch, who has been named the WHAC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

The last UM-Dearborn volleyball student-athlete to earn such an honor was Chelsea McCune on Nov. 5, 2007.

Lynch recorded a career-high 45 digs in the match with Concordia, surpassing her previous career-best by 25. The Northville, Mich., native added 15 digs in a match at Aquinas College last Wednesday.

This season, Lynch has racked up 221 digs, reaching double-digits in her last seven matches since taking over as the team's Libero. She has added 51 kills, 27 service aces and four total blocks after playing multiple roles for the Wolverines early in 2019.

The Wolverines look to keep pace in the race for a WHAC Postseason Tournament bid against Rochester University at 7 pm Wednesday in Rochester Hills, Mich.
