DEARBORN, Mich. – The 2019 Early Bird Challenge concluded with two more matches for the University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
The Wolverines dropped a hard-fought match in four sets to Goshen College (25-19, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20) before Cincinnati Christian University swept UM-Dearborn (25-14, 25-18, 25-8). The losses drop the Wolverines to 1-4 overall in the first week of the season.
Sabrina Giacomini finished with 10 kills and 19 assists, while Mallory Lynch added 10 kills and 10 digs against Goshen. Daniella Barile recorded 17 assists and a team-high 15 digs, while Delaney Smith added 12 digs.
Against CCU, the Wolverines were led by Gina Giacomini and Regan Sliwinski with four kills each. Sliwinski added two total blocks.
For her effort throughout the four-match weekend, Bronte Michura was named to the All-Tournament Team.
UM-Dearborn hits the road for the Milligan Mountain Madness tournament hosted by Milligan College starting Friday in Johnson City, Tenn.
