UM-Dearborn drops opener to Spring Arbor

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team opened the 2019 season with a road matchup against nonconference foe Spring Arbor University Wednesday in Spring Arbor, Mich.

The Wolverines fell in straight sets to the Cougars 25-13, 25-20, 25-11 to fall to 0-1 to open the sixth season under head coach Eric Stark.

After dropping the first set, the Wolverines fell behind early in the second before rallying late to cut the SAU lead to 22-20. The Cougars scored the final three points of the second before controlling the third for the sweep.

Sabrina Giacomini, Mallory Lynch, and Bronte Michura each finished with six kills to lead the Wolverines, while Daniella Barile added 11 assists. Delaney Smith recorded a team-high 10 digs to lead UM-Dearborn in her first career match.

SAU was led by Sydney Ritz with 10 kills and 10 digs for a double-double.

The Wolverines open the 2019 Early Bird Challenge with two matches on Friday starting at noon against Point Park University.
