Crusaders hold off Wolverines in WHAC matchup

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team battled Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference power Madonna University through four tough sets Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

UM-Dearborn had several set points in the first set but fell 31-29. The Wolverines rallied to tie the match at a set apiece with a 25-23 win in the second. The Crusaders held off the Wolverines the rest of the way taking the third 25-13 and the fourth 25-18.

The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 2-11 overall and 1-3 in the WHAC.

Gina Giacomini led the Wolverine offense with 15 kills, while Regan Sliwinski and Mackenzie Zook each added 10. Bronte Michura added nine kills, while Sabrina Giacomini and Daniella Barile each finished with 21 assists.

Sliwinski was strong at the net for a third time this week, recording four total blocks. Libero Mallory Lynch had a team-high 20 digs and Delaney Smith added 18.

Madonna was led by Jodie Kelly with 24 kills.

The Wolverines return to action against Cornerstone University at 7 pm Wednesday in Grand Rapids, Mich.
