Warriors hold off Wolverines in WHAC match

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team battled Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference rival Indiana Tech in a four-set match Friday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines took a close first set to move in front early and erased a six-point deficit to tie the second at 21-21. The Warriors recovered and evened the match after two. Indiana Tech won the third and fourth to escape with a 3-1 win. The set scores were 23-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-20.

The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 2-13 overall and 1-5 in the WHAC.

Reigning UM-Dearborn Player of the Week Regan Sliwinski continued her recent strong play at the net, recording seven total blocks while adding nine kills. The offense was led by Gina Giacomini and Mackenzie Zook with 11 kills each, while Daniella Barile had a team-high 19 assists.

Mallory Lynch finished with a team-high 14 digs from the Libero position and Delaney Smith added 13 digs.

The Warriors were led by Olivia Niekamp with 13 kills and Madison Park with 27 assists.

UM-Dearborn remains home to host the University of Northwestern Ohio at 1 pm Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
