Wolverines Take Down Gray Wolves With Phenomenal Second-Half

LIVONIA, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn (6-13, 3-8) women's basketball team found themselves in a hole again on Saturday (Jan. 14) as they trailed the Lourdes Grey Wolves (6-13, 3-8) by 13 points heading into the break. 16 second-half points from Siena Smith helped the Wolverines storm back and take the contest 67-59. 

 

UM-Dearborn Leaders

Smith came off the bench for the Wolverines and poured in 25 points in just 28 minutes of work. Smith shot 9-of-15 from the field and 3-6 from behind the arc. Smith tied two other Wolverines with seven rebounds for the team high. Senior guard Abby Fullerton shot 2-6 from behind the arc and 3-4 from the charity stripe to finish with 11 points. Briana Hurt gave the Wolverines a gritty performance doing all the dirty work against a strong frontcourt for Lourdes. Hurt finished the contest with 10 points, seven rebounds, and two personal fouls. 

 

Lourdes Leaders 

Emma Pedroza scored 17 first-half points for the Gray Wolves shooting 9-of-19 from the field and 3-of-8 from behind the arc. Macie Stringfellow was the only other Gray Wolves in double figures as she chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds in the loss. 

 

Inside the Game

After being down 34-21 after the second quarter, Dearborn outscored Lourdes 22-11 in the third quarter to get within two. Brooklyn Taylor drilled a three off a Smith dime to bring Dearborn within one with 7:56 to play. Dearborn took their first lead of the game at the 5:23 mark when Smith took a Hurt pass and made an easy layup after Hurt saved a loose ball under their own rim and found a Smith wide open under the basket. Dearborn outscored Lourdes 11-3 in the final 2:30.
