Sharp Shooting Helps Wolverines Earn First Road Win

LIVONIA, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn (2-7, 1-3) women's basketball team connected on eight of their 16 three-pointers on Tuesday (Nov. 22) en route to a 71-51 victory over Madonna (0-8, 0-5) at Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena. 

 

UM-Dearborn Leaders

Abby Fullerton led the Maize & Blue with 17 points and four assists. Fullerton was 5-of-7 from behind the arc and 2-for-7 from the free throw line. Siena Smith recorded a double-double scoring 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Dearborn shot 45% (27-60) from the field in the victory. 

 

Madonna Leaders

Caprice Augustine led the Crusaders with 17 points on five made field goals and 7-of-9 from the charity stripe. Jac'Ana Anderson and Delani Robinson rounded out the scoring with nine points a piece. Marcela Rodriguez led the Crusaders with six rebounds. 

 

Inside the Game 

Briana Hurt got the scoring started connecting on a jumper to start the game. With 7:30 remaining in the opening quarter Madonna tied up the contest at four before Dearborn would go on an 11-0 run capped off by a pair of Lily Miller free throws with 4:22 to play. Smith drilled a three from the wing with five seconds left to take a 22-13 lead after one quarter. 

 

Smith hit another triple to start the second quarter to increase the Wolverine lead to 12. The Crusaders trimmed the lead to eight before Miller converted a layup with 3:08 remaining in the half. 

 

The Wolverines ran a set play out of the half to get Fullerton the ball in space to hit another triple. With 3:15 remaining in the third, India Grissom extended the Wolverine lead to 19, capped off by her jumper. Fullerton connected on another three with 11 seconds to play in the third to take a 55-34 lead. 

 

Madonna would outscore the Wolverines 17-16 in the final quarter resulting in the 71-51 final. 

 

Up Next

The Wolverines host Rochester University on Wednesday (Nov. 30) at the Matthaei Center. Tip-off is set for 5:30.
