Byrd Wins Player of the Year, Two Wolverines Highlight WHAC Hockey Honors

DEARBORN, Mich. – For the second time in as many years the University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team had an individual receive Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Player of the Year. Sophomore winger Bailey Byrd was honored after his standout year for the Maize and Blue. 

The sophomore from Wyandotte, Mich., is familiar with WHAC All-Conference awards after being named First Team All-Conference the year prior and winning Newcomer of the Year. Byrd's Player of the Year honor came after Brendan West won it the previous year. 

Byrd finished second in the conference in points but was first in point per game (1.93) by a large margin. The right-handed maestro finished the season with 24 goals and 30 assists while tallying a league-high six game-winning goals. 

Ryan Stanley received First Team All-Conference honors after having a stellar first season dawning the Maize & Blue. The freshman blue-liner tallied 30 points on eight goals and 22 assists. The Trenton, Mich. native was meticulous on the ice after only recording 10 penalty minutes in 29 games. 

Joey Cullinan was named to the Champions of Character team, while Chris Haltinner won Champions of Character Coach for the second consecutive year. 

Seven Wolverines rounded out the awards by earning WHAC All-Academic honors. The entire list can be found below.
