DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn (8-5-1, 4-5-1) women's ice hockey team utilized three first-period goals to push past the Grand Valley State Lakers (4-9-1) on Friday (Dec. 9). Dearborn added a late goal to make it a 4-2 final at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.

After the Wolverines took an early penalty, Madison Schroeder intercepted a pass from the Laker netminder outside her crease. Schroeder walked the puck into the net and gave the Maize & Blue an early 1-0 lead on a short-handed goal. Three minutes later, Dearborn would extend their lead when Samantha Sensoli buried a loose puck after a scrum in front of the Laker net.

The Lakers would tie up the contest with nine minutes to play after a pair of unanswered goals in the opening period.

At the 6:31 mark, the Lakers failed to clear the puck out of their defensive zone. Taylor Spence gathered the puck on the left wing and ripped one past the Laker goaltender to give the Maize & Blue the 3-2 lead heading into the first intermission.

Victoria Hahn (2-5-1) made 22 saves in the contest but stopped every shot she faced in the second and third periods to preserve the Wolverine lead and allow Mali Sise to put the game away with an insurance goal with 4:50 to play.
