Heinrich's career high not enough in loss at Madonna

LIVONIA, Mich. - Despite a career-high in scoring from Emily Heinrich (SO/South Lyon, MI), the University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team was unable to keep pace with Madonna University in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Saturday in Livonia, Mich.

The Wolverines hung tight with the Crusaders early, but Madonna went on a 15-2 run at the end of the first quarter and start of the second to pull away. The Crusaders continued to establish their presence on offense in the second half, ultimately taking the contest 88-60. The loss snas a two-game win streak and drops the Wolverines to 7-21 overall and 4-16 in the WHAC.

Heinrich did the majority of her damage in the first half, scoring 15 points before the break and finishing the game with a career-best 18. She was 7-of-10 from the field, while adding four rebounds. Jeorgia Jones (FR/Detroit, MI) added eight points, while Arryn Dochenetz (SO/Livonia, MI) and Marisa Sauve (JR/Dearborn, MI) each came off the bench to score seven. Natalie Spala (SO/Livonia, MI) finished with a team-high nine rebounds.

The Wolverines shot 24-of-54 from the field, 3-of-11 from deep and 9-of-20 from the line. The Wolverines were outrebounded 40-36 and were forced into 25 turnovers, compared to 14 assists.

Becca Sabol was a force for the Crusaders recording 25 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. Michele Hayes and Kacy Robinson added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Madonna shot 31-of-66 from the field, 6-of-20 from behind the 3-point line and 20-of-26 on free throws.

The Wolverines return home for the final two games of the season starting with the University of Northwestern Ohio at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
