No. 6 Davenport women surge past Wolverines

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team was outscored 38-14 in the second half, falling to Davenport University in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest Wednesday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The No. 6 Panthers, who are undefeated in WHAC conference play, defeated the Wolverines 80-48. It was the second and final meeting between between the two teams this year. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 5-17 overall and 2-12 in the WHAC.

The Wolverines gave Davenport a run early on as they jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead. UM-Dearborn kept the game close throughout the first two quarters and trailed by just eight points at halftime. The Wolverines scored 34 points in a high-scoring first half.

Meredith Williams (JR/Novi, Mich.) enjoyed her best offensive game of the season, scoring 13 points, shooting 5-for-7 from the field, 3-for-4 from deep and recording five steals. Megan Swick (JR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) also scored 13 points, while Jeorgia Jones (FR/Detroit, MI) chipped in with eight points as she played a team-high 28 minutes as she returned to the starting lineup.

The Wolverines shot 38.5 percent (20-for-52) from the field, 5-for-16 from long range, and 3-for-5 from the line. They finished with 14 assists and 28 rebounds.

The Panthers were led by Jenna Falkenberg who came off the bench to score 20 points, while Molly Babbs and Ashley Cline each finished with 12 points. Davenport outrebounded the Wolverines 46-28, while shooting 29-for-68 from the field, 15-for-18 from the line, and adding seven three-pointers.

UM-Dearborn continues its three-game road swing as they take on Siena Heights University in a WHAC conference matchup at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Adrian, Mich.
