Second half rally leads Wolverines past Golden Eagles

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team won its second straight game for the first time this season topping Cornerstone University with a second-half rally in a Wolverine-Hooiser Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

After a slow start, the Wolverines scored 39 points in the second half to top the Golden Eagles 58-57, holding off the home team in the final seconds. The win improved UM-Dearborn's record to 7-20 on the season and 4-15 in the WHAC.

The Wolverines were down 28-19 through 20 minutes. Megan Swick (JR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) began a 9-4 run early in the second half by drilling two three-pointers within the first 78 seconds of the second half. Entering the fourth quarter down by five, UM-Dearborn took control of the game and went up by as much as seven points with just over two minutes remaining before the final buzzer ended the late push from Cornerstone.

Jeorgia Jones (FR/Detroit, MI) and Emily Heinrich (SO/South Lyon, MI) led the Wolverine offense with 13 points each. The two scored a combined 11 points in the final quarter. Jones shot 4-for-16 from the field and 5-of-6 from the line, while Heinrich went 3-for-5 from long range off the bench.

The Wolverines shot 19-for-51 from the field, 6-of-13 from long range and 14-for-20 from the free-throw line, while combining for 17 assists.

UM-Dearborn is set to play its last road game of the season against Madonna University at 1 p.m. Saturday in Livonia, Mich.
