Slow start dooms UM-Dearborn women at Marygrove

DETROIT - The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team could not overcome a slow start from the field in a loss at Marygrove College Saturday in Detroit.

The Wolverines shot 7-of-32 in the first half, falling behind early in a 76-46 loss against the Mustangs. The loss drops the Wolverines to 3-12 overall and 0-7 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.

The Wolverine offense was led by Emily Heinrich (SO/South Lyon, MI) and Meredith Williams (JR/Novi, Mich.) each scoring eight points, while Megan Swick (JR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) added seven points and six rebounds.

UM-Dearborn shot 19-of-68 from the field, 2-of-22 from deep and 6-of-12 from the free-throw line. The Wolverines were outrebounded 44-37, while finishing with nine assists and 16 turnovers.

The Mustangs were led by Elisha Major with 20 points, while Leija Masinovic added 16 points off the bench.

The Wolverines return home to take on Concordia University-Ann Arbor at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
