Big 4th Quarter pushes Cardinals past Wolverines

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team was unable to close out a win over (RV) Concordia University-Ann Arbor in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Wolverines led for most of the first half and after a run by the Cardinals, UM-Dearborn rebounded to take a narrow advantage into the fourth quarter. Concordia outscored the visitors 20-9 in the final frame to come away with the 63-54 win. The loss drops the Wolverines to 3-12 overall and 0-7 in the WHAC at the midway point of the regular season.

The Wolverines were led by Natalie Spala (SO/Livonia, MI), who was 4-of-7 shooting, while hitting a pair of 3-pointers. Spala added four rebounds and three assists. Jeorgia Jones (FR/Detroit MI) added nine points on 4-of-8 shooting, while Megan Swick (JR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) and Kendall Rose (SO/Canton, MI) each finished with seven points. Rose added a team-high seven rebounds.

The Wolverines shot 18-of-54 from the field, 8-of-24 from deep and 10-of-11 from the line, while winning the rebounding battle 43-35. Turnovers hampered the UM-Dearborn effort, as the Wolverines totaled 23 compared to 12 assists.

Four Cardinals finished in double figures, led by Brianna Rowe and Kari Borowiak, each scoring 14. Concordia shot 22-of-60 from the field, 6-of-22 from behind the 3-point line and 13-of-19 from the free-throw line.

The Wolverines continue road competition at Marygrove College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Detroit, Mich.
