UM-Dearborn drops road game at Kokomo

KOKOMO, Ind. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team stepped out of conference play to take on the University of Indiana-Kokomo Saturday in Kokomo, Ind.

The Wolverines and Cougars were locked in a close game in the first half, but Kokomo scored 27 points in the third to pull away to top UM-Dearborn 78-58. The loss drops the Wolverines to 3-8 overall.

Natalie Spala (SO/Livonia, MI) led the Wolverines with 14 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Jenna Rogers (SO/South Lyon, MI) added 12 points off the bench on 4-of-5 shooting, while Megan Swick (JR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) chipped in with 11 points, including three 3-pointers. Arryn Dochenetz (SO/Livonia, MI), Emily Heinrich (SO/South Lyon, MI) and Kendall Rose (SO/Canton, MI) each added six points, while Rose grabbed seven rebounds.

The Wolverines shot 21-of-61 from the field, 7-of-22 from deep and 9-of-13 from the free-throw line. UM-Dearborn won the rebounding battle 47-33, while finishing with nine assists and 28 turnovers.

Abby Scott led the Cougars with 17 points off the bench, while Deja Felder added 12. The Cougars shot 27-of-59 from the field, 7-of-19 from behind the 3-point line and 17-of-23 on free throws.

The Wolverines head to Wayne State University for an exhibition game with the NCAA Division II Warriors at 3 p.m. Sunday in Detroit.
