Wolverines drop nonconference matchup to Trinity Christian

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. - Freshman Jeorgia Jones (FR/Detroit MI) had a strong night for the University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team, but the Wolverines fell short in a nonconference matchup against Trinity Christian College Thursday in Palo Heights, Ill.

The Trolls pulled away from the Wolverines in the third quarter and held on for the 67-50 victory, dropping UM-Dearborn to 1-1 this season.

Jones showed a glimpse of what Wolverine fans have to look forward to for the next four years, as she put together her first career double-double. Jones finished with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while grabbing 10 rebounds.

Emily Heinrich (SO/South Lyon, MI) scored 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting, while Megan Swick (JR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) added nine points, four rebounds and five steals off the bench. Natalie Spala (SO/Livonia, MI) chipped in with eight points and six rebounds. The Wolverines shot 19-of-60 from the field, 3-of-27 from deep and 9-of-20 from the free-throw line. The Trolls won the rebounding battle 43-40.

TCC got a team-high 3 points from both Breanna Toppen and Celina Wanta, while Lauren Stokes added 11 points.

The Wolverines continue early season nonconference play against Calumet College of St. Joseph at noon Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
