Wolverines take down Cornerstone and UNOH, extend winning-streak to three

DEARBORN, Mich.— The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team returned to WHAC action with two conference matchups Wednesday night against the Cornerstone University Golden Eagles and Saturday afternoon against the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers.

The contest Wednesday night between the Wolverines and the Golden Eagles was a tale of two halves, with UM-Dearborn controlling the first by building up a 23-point at the break. Cornerstone University would claw back in the second half, getting within one point with 2:32 to play. However, the Wolverines would hold on in the game's closing minutes for a 70-68 victory over the Golden Eagles. 

Mariah Taylor led the way for UM-Dearborn with a game-high 23 points, while Ro'Zhane Wells and Abby Fullerton would add 10 points each. 

Layna Steele led Cornerstone University with 21 points in 21 minutes off the bench.

Against UNOH, the Wolverines would once again build a big first-half lead, despite being outscored in the second half by three points, on their way to a 56-45 defeat of the Racers. 

Fullerton would lead UM-Dearborn with a game-high 16 points, while Wells and Taylor would both add 12 points. Maya Barakat dominated in the paint with six points, eight rebounds, and six blocks for the Wolverines. 

UM-Dearborn extends its winning streak to three games with the two victories, keeping pace in the conference playoff race. The Wolverines record is now 6-13 overall and 4-7 in the WHAC, where they currently sit as the eighth seed.

UM-Dearborn returns to action against the Rochester University Warriors at 7 pm Wednesday in Rochester Hills, Mich.
