Women’s Basketball Falls to Marian in a Non-Conference Game

Indianapolis, Ind. – The women's basketball team took to the road on Wednesday night to battle the 9th ranked Marian Knights in a non-conference game.  Marian started quickly by scoring the game's first eight points.  UM-Dearborn would settle in and close the gap to just four points, but the Knights would regain the eight-point lead after the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the two teams go back and forth as UM-Dearborn would again cut the deficit to four points at two separate occasions but Marian would end the quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 28-18 lead into halftime.  Both teams struggled shooting the ball in the second quarter especially from behind the three-point line where the teams combined to go 0-9 in the second quarter.

In the second half, both teams found their rhythm as they each shot over 50% for the third quarter.  Marian would once again finish a quarter strong as they ended the third quarter on an 11-3 run to take a 59-38 lead into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Knights saw their lead increase to 27 points.  The Wolverines fought back but Marian kept shooting the ball well and went on to win 78-54.

Freshman Maya Barakat led UM-Dearborn with 15 points and she also added five rebounds.  Senior Ro'zhane Wells added 13 points and three assists while Senior Mariah Taylor and Freshman Jordan Banks each scored 10 points.  The Wolverines were perfect from the free-throw line in the game going 16 for 16 from the charity stripe.

The women's basketball team returns to WHAC play on Saturday when they host the Concordia University Cardinals at 1:00 pm at Henry Ford College.
