Concordia’s Fast Start Carries Them to Victory over Women’s Basketball

Dearborn, Mich. – The women's basketball team hosted the Concordia University Cardinals in a Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference match-up Saturday at Henry Ford College.  Concordia started fast, scoring 28 points in the first quarter, and held off a second-quarter flurry by UM-Dearborn to win 74-54.

After the first quarter, where Concordia had a 28-10 lead, UM-Dearborn fought back in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to single digits late in the second quarter.  The Cardinals would score late in the quarter to maintain a double-digit lead of 42-28 at halftime.

The two teams played very well in the second half as each team scored 14 points in the third quarter.  Concordia would find their shooting touch again in the fourth quarter to win 74-54 and improve to 4-3 in the WHAC.  The Cardinals utilized their size to grab 17 offensive rebounds in the game and drop the Wolverines to 1-6 in the WHAC.  

Senior Mariah Taylor and junior Abby Fullerton led UM-Dearborn, each scoring 11 points.  Senior Cydney Williams grabbed seven rebounds in the loss, while fellow senior Ro'zhane Wells had eight points and five assists in the game.  

The women's basketball team is off until Friday when they travel to Schuylkill, Pennsylvania, to take on Penn State Schuylkill in the first of two games on the weekend.
